Custom Installation

Custom Installation

This dialog box displays information and options for a custom installation and allows you to change it. A custom installation allows extensive control over the installation process. You can install the full product, only selected portions of the product, or do network workstation and network server installations.

Source Path

This specifies the drive where the installation files are. If you are installing from a floppy drive, this will usually be A:\ or B:\. If you are installing from a CD-ROM, this will usually be D:\ If you need to do an install from a hard disk or network drive, specify that path here.

Destination Path

For a single user installation, this specifies the drive and directory where the product will be installed. For a Network Server or Network Workstation installation, this specifies where the files unique to each workstation will be stored. If this directory does not exist, it will be created. You should install this product in a new, empty directory, not one shared by other applications.

Note: Do not enter a long directory name (longer than 8 letters) in any part of the path entered in this dialog, we recommend C:\AWIN3

Do not install this product in the \WINDOWS or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

Network Path

For a Network Server or Network Workstation installation this option specifies the shared network drive and directory where the shared portion of the product will be installed. If this directory does not exist, it will be created.

If you have selected to install a Network Workstation, no files will be copied to this directory. If you have selected to install a Network Server, the shared network files will be copied to this directory. This option is grey if you have not purchased a network license or if you are installing a Standalone Workstation.

Note: Do not enter a long directory name (longer than 8 letters) in any part of the path entered in this dialog, we recommend C:\AWIN3NET

Do not install this product in the \WINDOWS or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

Required

This tells you how much disk space is required to install the options you have selected into the Network and Destination paths. If the source path is not specified correctly, or the install disk is not physically in the drive, this number may not be exact. This is the total amount of disk space required.

Available

This is the amount of free space available on the destination drive. If this number is less than the number in Disk Space Required, installation may not be able to complete.

If you are running a disk compression utility like Stacker or DoubleSpace, installation may complete even if the disk space available is less than the amount of disk space required.

This product is designed to allow installation of the product on a server directory with data files maintained on client workstations. Once a server installation has been completed, as many client installations as supported by your license may be performed on client workstations.

Standalone Workstation

Standalone Workstation is the default setting for Network Options and is designed to allow installation of the product onto a standalone system, or onto a network system where use of shared network resources is not wanted. This option installs all the files for the product (both the client and server components) into one directory on the local workstation and does not make use of any shared network resources.

Network Workstation

Network Workstation installs only the workstation component of the product onto a local directory on a workstation. It does not install any components to a shared network directory although it does rely on the availability of the product's server component being installed in advance.

Network Server

Network Server installs the shared server component of this product onto a shared server directory that can be accessed by any client-only installations of this product. Clients using this directory will need Directory, Read and Execute permissions. Additional permissions may be required depending on your network operating system.
